Advanced BatteRy System and Integration for Generation-4 Solid State CElls
ARISE is a European Union funded project under Horizon Europe Programme on revolutionizing electric vehicle (EV) technology by overcoming the limitations of conventional lithium-ion batteries. While current battery electric vehicles (BEVs) largely rely on liquid electrolyte-based lithium-ion systems, these solutions pose safety risks due to their flammability and electrochemical instability.

A WORD FROM THE CONSORTIUM
As ARISE approaches its first project review, the consortium has moved from foundational design into active development. Over the past months we finalised our conceptual cell-to-chassis design, advanced the thermal and battery management systems, and significantly expanded our collaboration network across Europe’s battery innovation community.

Synergizing EV Technologies: Engineering Efficiency, Intelligence, and Sustainability
On 26 February 2026, ARISE successfully hosted its first online webinar, “Synergizing EV Technologies: Engineering Efficiency, Intelligence, and Sustainability,” bringing together more than 30 experts, researchers, and industry stakeholders.
Opened by coordinator Dr. Omid Moradi, the session reviewed ARISE’s achievements and future roadmap and marked the official introduction of the COLLABAT Cluster. Speakers explored topics such as scalable wireless BMS with TinyML, intelligent state estimation, smart glass integration, next-generation electrode materials, advanced thermal management, and digital twins for battery lifecycle intelligence. Attendance exceeded expectations, reflecting strong interest from the battery and e-mobility community.

COLLABORATING FOR IMPACT: The COLLABAT Cluster
ARISE is proud to be an active member of COLLABAT (Collaborative Battery), a European cluster uniting R&D projects to advance next-generation BEV battery packs. COLLABAT brings together independent projects working across the electric battery supply chain, with the shared goal of boosting awareness and promoting technology transfer among academia, vehicle OEMs, and the wider EV battery value chain. Its focus areas include battery integration, BMS, lightweight materials, battery passports with a recycling focus, and BMS to charging station interactions.
Together, the cluster’s coordinators and dissemination managers are working to:
-
Engage a larger EV stakeholder community in the EU and beyond to present joint ideas;
-
Build an independent platform for industry to discuss and propose common testing and evaluation procedures and standards for EV battery packs;
-
Explore synergies for joint dissemination at external workshops, conferences and events;
-
Co-organise events on specific battery topics; and
-
Maximise impact through joint publications and shared cluster-level materials.
Alongside ARISE, the cluster currently unites the ongoing projects iBattMan, InnoBMS, S4MILE, RESiLiTE and SIERRA, building on the legacy of completed projects such as ALBATROSS, LIBERTY, HELIOS and MARBEL.
